Declaration

Celebrating America 250 in Alabama

Reception: July 2nd, 5:30 to 7 pm

As we reflect on the United States of America’s 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence, we must consider what was provided to us during these times as proof of the American concept, art. Whether it be a beautiful signature, a painting on a wall, a flowing poem, or a song, art has told stories of history for as long as humans have been walking this Earth. We ask that artists, visual, literary, or lyrical, reflect on our local history, as well as what it means to them.

This exhibition will be in two parts: First, a call for visual arts, where artists can submit artworks fitting the theme of what celebrating 250 in Opelika/Auburn means to you. The second phase: selected art pieces will be chosen as prompts for literary or lyrical artists to use as inspiration. How does this artwork connect to you and your life in Lee County?

Visual art entries must be submitted for consideration by April 27th, 2026.

The application can be found here:

Literary art interest must be submitted by June 5th, 2026.

The interest form can be found here:

All forms of art must be wired for installation in the exhibition, unless otherwise specified.
